Deployment lead time

Deployment lead time is the elapsed clock from deciding to build AI capacity to actually running workloads on it. It matters because it is the single measure that aggregates every upstream constraint — power, transformers, land, chips, cooling, logistics — into one schedule. Whichever input is slowest, the longest pole, sets when the site comes alive. With demand immediate but build cycles measured in years, time-to-power has become the real competitive variable, more decisive than any one component.

When lead times slip, the damage is financial and compounding: revenue is deferred and capital sits stranded in half-finished capacity earning nothing. The exposure spans the whole build chain — system builders like Wistron and Jabil, mechanical and electrical contractors such as Comfort Systems and Quanta Services, and the freight forwarders — Nippon Express, Kuehne + Nagel, Expeditors — that must move the equipment on time for any of it to matter.
