Cloudflare runs a global edge network — servers placed close to users in cities worldwide — originally built for content delivery and security. Workers AI extends that footprint into distributed GPU inference, running models near the user rather than in one central data center, alongside an AI gateway and a vector database. It sits in infrastructure as a producer of inference serving.

Its differentiator is distribution: latency-sensitive inference benefits from proximity, and Cloudflare already owns the network and the developer relationships to exploit it. It competes not for the largest training jobs but on serving smaller models cheaply and everywhere. The model places it as an inference producer with a genuinely distinctive architecture, though it remains a challenger to the hyperscale clouds that command the bulk of raw GPU capacity and the heaviest workloads.
