Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics is a Chinese integrated-circuit designer, and within the AI story its most strategic line is FPGAs — reconfigurable logic chips that can be reprogrammed after they are made. Because Western export controls have squeezed access to Xilinx and Altera parts, Fudan's FPGA family has become the leading domestic substitute for defense, aerospace and industrial systems that need flexible acceleration without foreign silicon.

The model places it as a producer of custom logic on the chip layer, but with a modest structural weight: it is a national-substitution play, not a frontier-compute one. Its leverage comes from the scarcity of alternatives inside China rather than from performance leadership. If controls tighten further, demand concentrates onto the handful of local designers able to supply certified, reprogrammable parts — and Fudan is one of the first names on that shortlist.
