The binding constraints are physical: grid capacity and the multi-year interconnection queues to plug a data centre in, the transformers and substations that step power down to the racks, the power-delivery chain inside the building, backup generation for when the grid can’t keep up, and grid-scale battery storage smoothing it all. Rising power density per rack only tightens the squeeze. This theme groups the utilities, grid-equipment makers and power-electronics companies most exposed to the energy layer of the AI value chain — the "pick-and-shovel" names that get paid whichever model wins.
